Friends of George: clever humans we love and admire, who love storytelling as much as we do.

Who: Aaron O’Brien, Senior Chief of Staff, Nine News Queensland

What: “I coordinate the state news for Australia’s biggest television network audience; primarily for the 6pm Bulletin but also for the TODAY Show and the morning, afternoon and late news bulletin.

I’m at the desk 13 hours a day; I’m on call 24 hours a day. I assign reporters, cameramen to whatever stories they’re chasing, coordinate disaster responses, send news choppers…”

Why: “Instagram – it’s such a well-curated media site; anyone is really able to craft and share high-quality media. I think they’ve nailed the aesthetic experience of content consumption.”

Favourite social platform: “I’m getting into TikTok – I definitely have an appreciation for how Gen Z films their thoughts on the fly, it’s like Twitter in video form – but Instagram is still my favourite. I’m a Millennial.”

Secret Content Vice: “[Australian reality TV show] MAFS. It’s wildly addictive. Don’t tell me you don’t agree.”

Creator obsession: “Trent Dalton. I have such a journalism crush on him; he writes the most beautiful articles I’ve ever read. And Nick McKenzie is the best journalist in the country. He breaks the biggest stories, he’s completely fearless, he’s the reason people become journalists. Un-f*cking-believable.”
